Wild Iris and the Western Sound

With a sound born high in the Rockies, Wild Iris and the Western Sound unites a genuine love for Appalachian old-time, blues, jazz, folk and swing tradition with a deep gratitude for the mountains in which they call home. Lizzy Plotkin, Jenny Hill and Natalie Spears have been collaborating for nearly a decade as songwriters and multi-instrumentalists (Free the Honey, Jollification Project, Lizzy and Natalie). With open-back banjo, upright bass, fiddle, mandolin and guitar, the familiar acoustic melodies twist and turn, creating space for richly-woven three-part harmonies that dance their way into the sky. The songs tell stories of the people and places that have shaped their lives, and those that have carved the way before them. This autumn, the trio brings their authentic sound and joyous energy to a mountain stage near you.

3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Left Arm Tan

Left Arm Tan comes full circle in 2022. The band that took its name from the Wilco song Monday returns with a new album produced by Ken Coomer of Wilco. The album, Undefeated (April 22, 2022), is a work with purpose. Featuring genre bending songs that blend Alternative, Americana and influences from the 70’s and 80’s, it is a rock album that refuses to compromise. An album hell bent on delivering the goods. LAT is comprised of Brian Lee (vocals, guitar), Daniel Hines (guitar, vocals), Shawn Light (guitar, vocals), Joseph Lopez (bass), Tim Manders (drums, vocals) and Mark Belding (trumpet/steel guitar). LAT released their first CD, Jim, in 2010 and the opening track Wish quickly won Song of the Year from Saving Country Music. Their follow up EP Thurm established them as a band to watch. But it was 2013’s release, Alticana, described by Routes and Branches as “nothing less than one of the brightest, most tuneful albums of 2013,” that established Left Arm Tan as a true critics favorite in the US and Europe. The band has continued their “twangy, almost mystical romanticism” (No Depression) with the critically acclaimed albums Lorene (2016), El Camino (2018), and Left Arm Tan (2020). In a world beset by pandemics, free streaming, and apathy, it’s good to know one band remains Undefeated. Or as Ernest Hemingway said it, “Man (or a band) is not made for defeat…A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Old Man and the Sea. 1952

5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Cash’d Out

“Some people are impressionists. These guys leave an impression,” says Bill Miller, owner of Johnny Cash.com about Cash’d Out, a San Diego based band that channels Johnny Cash in about as close a manner to the real thing as it gets.

After fifteen years, traveling hundreds of thousands of miles on the road and winning over as many fans, fans who still continually tell the group how grateful they are that Cash’d Out so righteously carries the torch of the Johnny Cash Show. Besides music critics anointing Cash’d Out as "The Next Best Thing to Johnny Cash”, their highlights have been many: W.S. Holland, Johnny Cash’s longtime drummer, has sat in with Cash’d Out; front man, Douglas Benson, has played Johnny’s cherry sunburst Guild guitar (courtesy of Mr. Miller); “Cindy Cash came to a show and was moved to give me a glass locket that was her father’s,” explains Benson; Longtime Johnny Cash manager Lou Robin has also been to several Cash’d Out shows and claimed that if he closed his eyes it was as if “going back in time.”; And most recently, an unforgettable evening performing the music of Johnny Cash with the San Diego Symphony as a special event for their Summer Pops Series. The band’s live shows respectfully reference the late, great Man in Black's Sun Records and early Columbia era sound, combined with the energy of the classic multi-platinum live recordings from Folsom Prison and San Quentin. The group's genuine love (and authentic recreation) of Johnny Cash’s music and its universal appeal fans of all ages and of virtually all musical genres makes each Cash’d Out show a must-see event.
